So, in case you have been wondering what Dennis Quaid is doing:

Looks like pretty standard fare, but Quaid is clearly having fun playing the bad guy (speaking about typecasting, I can't think of Quaid cast as the bad guy before).

Quaid really makes some odd, and often unfortunate, choices in the roles he takes. Really, I think he should be looking for something more in the vein of what Liam Neeson's doing. Or films like what Harrison Ford did when he was around the same age - like The Fugitive or Air Force One.

i guess really, he's more in Costner's position today, than Ford's.

Which is weird since I find his smile super creepy. I watched Inner Space recently and kept thinking that he would have made an amazing joker back in the day.

This is out already here in the States and is getting terrible reviews.

Beneath the Darkness

Unfortunately for Quaid, director Martin Guigui's pathetic thriller doesn't even have the pulse-pounding excitement of a second-tier Scooby-Doo mystery...

Because Vaughn's murderous predilection is established from the get-go, Beneath the Darkness is one long waiting game as Travis and his crew of dullards determine just exactly how evil and creepy he is. This allows for plenty of time to observe Quaid in benign-madman mode, which forces him to try to compensate for a thorough lack of menace by blinking a lot. It's not particularly scary, though it does create the rather humorous impression that he has an allergic reaction to the film he's in. Can you blame him?

I suspect he'd do those in a heartbeat, but he's not getting that kind of offers anymore. It's been a looooooooooooong time since he had a major role in a major movie. Maybe he should do what a lot of actors who used to be bigger than they are now have done successfully lately and go the TV series route for a bit?

He had the lead supporting role in GI Joe.

I've seen interviews where he's given the impression that he doesn't really care as long as he gets paid (and it gives him the free time to go golfing).

I take it all back, in that case :D

Well, that's what you would say in an interview, isn't it? Good for him if it's true, though, he is well occupied (and presumable well paid), after all.

It was more of sideways comments (they weren't asking him about his career or anything like that) which is why I tend to believe its true.

I don't know why and how, but here's a review of heavy metal band GWAR reviewing Warhorse. In costume, obviously.

This is probably a fairy-tale "reimagining" too far; Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Posted Image

Apparently, despite the fact it's already in the can, the release has been pushed back to 2013 - probably not the best sign.

Yes, and that was a cool idea poorly executed. Maybe Hansel and Gretel will be poorly executed too, but for now I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah, the premise itself could be a lot of fun, if the movie's well done.

I honestly didn't get all the hype over Dead Snow. I thought it was okay but certainly nothing special. I could see the moments that were funny in the script but didn't really work in the actual film. So I'm not particularly surprised to hear that Wirkola's new film probably isn't very good either.

A ton here in the US, particularly in the horror community.

I thought the Dead Snow trailers looked brilliant. Then it never arrived at the cinema, for some reason. I assume because it was crap, but I still haven't seen it so I don't know.

Well, yeah, but I took that for the typical horror community. You know, any zombie nazis film that doesn't actually cause physical pain and diarrhea in viewers would be hailed as The Godfather.

I think Dead Snow is a nice, mindless beer movie with some pretty damn funny scenes. It certainly doesn’t take itself all too seriously which works to its advantage and the gore is spectacularly over the top here and there. Although I must say the only scene that really grossed me out when I first saw it was the guy and the girl having sex in the outhouse. After he’s taken a shit! And he didn’t wash his hands either…
