I'm watching Masterchef. There's far too much bloody talking in this program for my liking. The talking doesn't really tell us anything interesting either, it just recaps what the audience have just seen 2 minutes before.

If any US folk haven't seen the original State of Play mini-series, BBC America are repeating it starting tonight. Absolutely worth watching.

I don't watch it regularly, but I do, and loved that a woman dropped some stuff on the floor and was trying to pick it back up. She got the boot, of course.

It's the problem with a lot of those shows. There's a lot of debate this year about the X-Factor losing 10% share or whatever and is it the judges or the contestants? I think it's because the show is 50% filler either telling you what you'll see next or just saw 5 minutes ago. We now watch it while fast forwarding half the show to actually see the competition which is a few guys singing and then the results announced.

There was a Dragon's Den review recently where they guy sat down and counted that 30% of the show was Evan Davies telling you what will happen next or what just happened. Just stick in 3 more inventions and up the pace.

Ed Byrne's new DVD, which is great. I always think he's lower profile than he should be.

I've been watching something called Living with the Amish on Channel 4. It's a typically trashy reality TV thing about a bunch of teenagers from England who go to spend their summer with Amish families.

The teenagers are generally uninteresting and unlikable, but the programme is fascinating for the view of Amish culture, quite a few aspects of which have surprised me. I can't help thinking there's a lot to like about the way they do things.

The BBC have wimped out tonight and are showing a repeat of QI rather than the scheduled show featuring Jeremy Clarkson, for fear of a backlash. Pussies. Posted Image

Watching "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil". Only about 15 minutes in to it so far, but its awesome. Funny and really turns the conventional slasher flick conceptions on their head.

Watched a documentary about Joe Strummer and The Clash last night. It wasn't that great - very "budget" feel to it and it padded out the interviews with some "Who the fuck are they?" interviewees. On the plus side though it did have uninterrupted footage of the three Clash songs Strummer and Mick Jones performed together at the firefighter's union fund raiser just before his death. Made it work sitting through the previous 50 min of "I know this already" stuff.

Also watched Red which I enjoyed well enough. Cast were good, action was good. Solid all round action movie. How well does it compare to the source material (it was a Warren Ellis comic, right?)?

In TIme.

It has a decent idea at its core, and it's nice that it didn't have a cop-out ending - for once, the hero actually has a dramatic effect on the world - but those are about the only good things you can say about it.

It looks like a TV movie - Niccol has tried to do the same thing he did with Gattaca, i.e. make the movie appear timeless rather than futuristic, but it doesn't work at all this time round - and strangely, the lack of anyone older than about 30 means that no-one in the cast really has any sense of authority.

It does work in Niccol's favour however, when it comes to the superficially strange family relationships - casting Olivia Wilde as Timberlake's über-hot mother makes for some suitably creepy interactions between the two.

It doesn't have anything to do with it, basically. Except for the central idea that an agent who's been out of the game for years is suddenly being hunted by his agency, they have nothing in common. The book's not a comedy by a quite serious action flick - he just goes off and he kills them all, quite brutally. Think a harsher version of a Bourne movie, in terms of style. It's a fun book, and probably would have made for a good movie if they'd actually adapted it, but I expect this one's just as fun in a different way.

The theme music from Dead Poets Society popped into my head this morning, so am currently watching the climactic scene on Youtube. I know it's cheesy, but I do love it still.

I saw Harold And Kumar 3D today, and it was good, but the cinema was plastered with Muppets posters, and the new Orange advert before the film was a (very fun) Muppets one, so I was a tad riled by that all.

I actually enjoyed H&K a touch more than the Muppets. They're both pure joy but very different kinds of joy.
