BluRay box set has shipped from Amazon UK.

I got mine on Wednesday and have to admit it's a beautiful blu-ray set. My one pet peeve, and its one I have in general with blu-ray sets, is that the collection is on 5 blu-ray discs. One of the major advantages of blu-ray is that you fit so much more on a disc in comparison to a standard DVD disc. There are two discs in the GOT blu-ray set with one episode...which is ridiculous as the supplementary material is a good amount, but not that much. They could have put all the episodes on two discs and put all the extras on a third. Or, since some of the extras can be directly accessed from the episodes, space the episodes out over three discs.

I'm not going to complain as I got it for less than 50% of sticker price from amazon ($34.99), but it really doesn't save on shelf space when the blu-ray sets are only one disc less than the DVD sets when they could be two or three. End rant.

BluRay trumps DVD when both media are storing standard-def content. But when you get into HD (six times the pixel information as standard definition), BluRay is restricted to about the same ratio as DVD. Sure, you can cram more material into a BD, but to do so you need to further compress the data, and after a certain point you're just hurting the picture. A pristine, optimally-encoded hour-long program takes up about 12-15 GB, over half of a 25-GB disc, or about 25-30% of a 50-GB disc. If HBO used 25-GB discs, I'd rather have fewer episodes per disc than a compromised picture, especially with a show like GoT, with its super-detailed sets and costumes.

I've only watched the first episode of GoT so far, but it's pretty obvious that the bottleneck is my TV. I need to get it professionally calibrated, I think.

Not to derail the thread, but have you tried any of the calibration instructional DVD's/Blu-ray's, yet? C/Net says great things about Disney's WOW blu-ray calibration set and its certainly cheaper than hiring a professional, but does have its limitations (more for beginners and intermediate level types).

Apologies if you already knew all of this and have taken this route.

Gave me shivers at the end there. About time it continues...

When I saw Cersei being obviously being under some threat in the street, I had a flash of really wanting to see her die in revenge for Jory's death. I really can't wait to dive into this again.

And for forcing Jaime's hand on pushing Bran out of the window. Personally, I'd rather see personal harm come to Joffrey, who's simply a cruel little SOB with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. At least with Cersei and Jaime you see pockets of humanity, glimpses of what they were like before they were damaged.

Joffrey has been nursed on and fed a steady diet of this bitter milk his whole life and has no personal crises/events in his own short life to make him that way...other than being spoiled and shaped by his mother and the other Lannisters (except Tyrion).

Spoiler
And Cersei didn't want to see Ed dead, I'll give her that.

I'll still enjoy her suffering a bit. Her, and her entire cursed family (except Tyrion).

Maybe we should just put (except Tyrion) at the end of any sentence, no matter what it is about (except Tyrion).

Oh, I'm sorry, but this wasn't meant in any way as referring to the plot. Last year at some point people who read more of it were discussing the complexity of the characters in a general manner, and I didn't see this as in spoiler territory - again, sorry, but at least I have no idea what I am talking about, specifically, so it could all be nonsense, anyway :)

I can't edit that post anymore, so hopefully a mod could jump in and spoiler the passage like Steve did in his quote? Pretty please?

Life span is spoiler territory, especially in a show like this.

There must be a mod in the area, can you smell sulphur? ;)

Nope, but you can't get this BD in the UK and it may well be region locked.
