Hello:

There were a few postings here about bacon soda and bacon
with chocolate and other products. I thought it was all a gimmick
until the other day I saw in the news some big bacon festival where
they have a celebration of it and all these products like bacon
toothpaste and so on. There was an eating contest too and after
a while it was disgusting how much one guy ate imho.

I looked up on Google and there are now similar festivals and
conventions over bacon.

We are headed for a bacon apocalypse to go with the zombie one!Posted Image

Thoughts?

Pictures?

How can you have a thread about bacon and whether or not we like it and not have a poll? Shame on you Al, back to starting-a-thread-school for you!

I have a co-worker that makes bacon at work, every morning. Yes...at the office. The entire building smells of bacon from 8am-10am.

that sounds like a good place to work. although I still observe that you shouldn't eat in class if you've not brought enough for everyone.

We deal because every few weeks she goes on a baking spree...and we all reap the benefits......

Ashley and I have been slowly moving to a mostly vegetarian diet, though she still eats fish, and I have a hard time letting go of pork. I'll eat very healthy organic-raw-whatever meals all week, then make a mondo BLT on Sunday. As my sole culinary indulgence lately, it's not so bad.

Are you hiring? My office usually smells of burnt eggs and weak coffee around that time.

I know a few "vegetarians" who eat fish and/or chicken. I'm still of the view that just because an animal might not be as smart as a carrot, doesn't make it a vegetable.

Not for any position you want. And since' I make the coffee...and we are currently drinking some 100% Kona...I can also say, our coffee is anything but weak to go with that good ol' bacon smell!

Yeah, I don't buy into the "pescetarian" thing at all. You either are vegetarian or you aren't. We've gone semi-veggie mostly for health reasons, though animal abuse was also a factor (watched "Food, Inc" and haven't eaten beef or poultry since). I'm just not ready for the full jump yet.

*Shuffles off to weak-coffee land dejectedly*

i do, but if you are one, then own it. nothing pisses me off more than people who say they are vegetarians, but then eat fish and/or chicken. if you're proclaiming to be something, you better know what it is you're claiming to be. a vegetarian does not eat anything with a face. this includes chicken and fish!

it was always the animal welfare issue that was a problem for me. i saw a lot of undercover videos of slaughterhouses, and it was the stuff nightmares are made of. it sort of spiralled out of control for me though because when i didn't eat meat, i couldn't very well justify drinking milk or eating eggs either, and then i couldn't justify eating anything with animal products in it (cheese, jello), and then i felt like i couldn't eat anything i liked at all, so i started eating it all again.

also, the vegan community are the cruellest, meanest, self-righteous people i have ever encountered. someone actually called me a whore and a terrible person because i don't think eating honey is bad.

honey is clearly guilty of a lot of crimes against the vegan community. I'm not sure how you can be so heartless.

kidding, of course.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not pro-animal cruelty, but so many of those animals we eat are only still around in any real numbers because we eat them. If bacon didn't taste good, would there still be so many pigs around? Yes, there are some animals out there which possibly don't taste very nice, and which still thrive...but look at tigers, rhinos, etc. They may or may not taste good, I don't know, but the truth is, they're a pain in the ass to try and kill. I could probably take out enough chickens for a couple of weeks worth of mcnuggets, on my own, but I don't think I'd be all that successful at getting Bengal Tiger burgers for the family. When a chicken, or pig or sheep or whatever writes to their local councillor and demands equal rights, I say give them to them, and we can eat meerkats, but until then, so much as I might think animals deserve respect, and care, and what have you, my loyalty is primarily with my own species, and our survival. I'd much rather an animal die that multiple humans may live, even if sometimes those humans turn out to be worse than the animals we feed off of.

Still, there is no excuse whatsoever for some of the things that happen to animals on their way to our stomach.

I eat meat, and don't feel very guilty about that, it's natural. but dammit, some of those guys who kick into the pigs so that they can get a few hundred of them into a tiny little box should be tortured themselves for a while. Be kind to your future meal.

I love Bacon! And I can see what Stephanie is saying. My EX girlfriend was a veggie and bitched me out and went crazy if I had any chicken or anything. I mean she went off on my friends who do eat meat, but buy everything from a local farm. Which I said wasn't bad. But she went crazy. I don't see anything wrong with Vegan or veggie. But don't spread your beliefs like you are next coming of Christ.

Either way back to the subject. I LOVE BACON...even though i don't eat it that much.
