So, what do people think looks best: Mirror Mirror or Snow White and the Huntsman?

("Neither" is a valid answer.)

Is "Which one is which?" also a valid answer?

Neither looks all that good to me, but Charlize Theron > Julia Roberts. And I liked Hemsworth in Thor, at least. Also, The Huntsman one doesn't look to be incredibly juvenile and obnoxious. So if I was being forced to see one I'd definitely go with Snow White and the Huntsman

i'll see snow white and the hunstman after its run in theatres. mirror mirror looks stupidly campy and childish. also, i can't stand julia roberts.

They're both valid approaches to the story, but 'Huntsman' looks like it works a lot better this time round.

Honestly, I may be making a premature judgment here, but... I just think you'll be damned to Hell if you go see this movie.

It's like the Anti-(A-Nightmare-Before-)Christ(mas).

On one level it looks like someone wrote a comedy skit about a Hollywood pitch ("Santa, the Easter Bunny and bunch of other childhood myths turn out to be real and fight the forces of darkness for the fate of the world!") and sent it to the wrong department, where they took it seriously.

But on another level, if you're under 12 years old maybe, this could be THE BEST FILM EVER!!!! All it needs is some dinosaurs and maybe a robot?!?!?!

I wasn't really paying attention to 'Mirror, Mirror', I saw the trailer and tuned out but... what I didn't realize is that the director is Tarsem!

Now I'm a bit more interested. My suspicion is that it was just a paying gig for him, everyone has to eat, but he is distinctive and should bring something to the film no matter how simple the material is. He managed to make 'The Cell' stand out from the serial killer field, even though the film isn't actually any better than most of its brethren.

Apparantly he's now looking for less visually driven films, something with more of a plot and better characters?

Tarsem Singh, director of the Snow White adaptation Mirror Mirror, told The Hollywood Reporter that his intended follow-up, the wartime thriller Eye in the Sky, is meant to be a departure after tackling projects that have emphasized visual rather than narrative considerations. "I had just been looking specifically for material that wasn't on paper, that was not written well," Tarsem said Tuesday. "I wanted that because I want to be able to put enough of my DNA in it and I am very aware that I'm putting the cart ahead of the donkey. But now I'd like to do non-visual films, and I'd like to go reflect on people."

That is one seriously unimaginative voice cast. Whoever's playing the English accented bad guy (Jude Law presumably?) sounded rubbish and I can only assume those were the best bits they had...

Glad to hear that Anchorman sequel finally got a greenlight, had been waiting for this just as long as I have for an Arrested Development movie!

Still, 12-yr-olds and under should not be allowed to see movies. They should be playing videogames.

I've never worked on a videogame and therefore disagree completely. They should be consuming as many TV shows and movies as possible!

So, this weekend isn't going to add much in the way of viewing pleasure. Wrath Of The Titans is the biggest, and probably most notable of the new releases. The reviews are predictably bad and the trailers give no indication that the critics have missed something.

Bully, the documentary on bullying, has a lot of good reviews as does Goon, surprisingly.

In the "WTF?" category, you have the movie October Baby about a girl who, due to the onset of a medical condition, discovers not only was she adopted but her birth mother also attempted an unsuccessful abortion before giving birth to her - not really curious to know what that means. It's been roundly trounced, but I did like one critic's assessment:

The odds that this has happened in the real world approach those of being struck by lightning and eaten by a shark at the same time. With a winning lottery ticket tucked in your swimsuit.

In any case, I'm intrigued by this:The Wachowskis getting back into the sci-fi action business with Jupiter Ascending

Wachowskis Redemption Week continues: Deadline reports that Andy and Lana Wachowski are prepping their first major sci-fi action franchise since The Matrix trilogy, an original idea titled Jupiter Ascending that's being fast-tracked at Warner Bros. The siblings—who are currently busy sharing shooting segments for that massive Cloud Atlas adaptation with Tom Hanks and Halle Berry—haven’t released a film since Speed Racer gave everyone a still-lingering headache in 2008, but the studio seems confident in their comeback, judging by the fact that it’s currently negotiating “which A-list stars” will star in it, suggesting that at least some A-list stars will be sent home hungry and wanting. Plot details are being kept secret on the film, which came together only after the Wachowskis apparently gave up on trying to find backers for their hard-R movie about a gay romance between an American and Iraqi soldier and how it led to the assassination of President Bush. That story, alas, now exists solely in the fevered imagination of conservative radio hosts.

I'm also interested in their Cloud Atlas, adaptation, but, really, with V for Vendetta, Speed Racer, and even Ninja Assassin, it is hard to say they ever really left the sci-fi action movie business.

I think V for Vendetta definitely was. Speed Racer and Ninja Assassin aren't solidly sci-fi - except the tracks in Speed Racer, maybe - but can you really say they are very far outside the same genre as The Matrix?

I think the title is interesting. With PERCY JACKSON, CLASH & WRATH OF THE TITANS, IMMORTALS, PROMETHEUS and now JUPITER ASCENDING, the Greco theme is moving strongly into the Sci-Fi and Fantasy film genre.

Of course, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY was already there, I suppose.
